
The Grayson County High School archery team prepared for the nation’s largest archery state tournament in the nation by dominating the Breckinridge County Bash held on Saturday.
In total, the squad earned a tournament-best 3,149 points. The Cougar archers were led by freshman Isaac Fulkerson’s 282 points, earning the sharpshooter an overall first place medal for all boys and girls at the competition.
On Fulkerson’s heels were two other sharp-eyed GCHS archers: Freshman Dax Lasley scored 281 points for first place among tenth grade boys, and second place among all boys and girls. Freshman Austin Clemons scored 279 points, ranking second in ninth grade boys and fourth among boys and girls.
The competition featured 54 boys and 51 girls overall.
Other top finishers for GCHS
- Junior Isaac Paul had 255 points, good for second place among 11th grade boys, eighth in boys and 14th among girls and boys.
- Junior Brandon Hood accounted for 253 points, as he won third place among 11th grade boys, ninth place in boys and 14th
- Senior Gracie McCombs had 265 points, giving her first place among 12th grade girls, third among all girls and seventh overall.
- Junior Jana Dickerson, who shot a perfect 50 in one round of the tournament, finished with 264 points, placing her first among 11th grade girls, fourth among all girls and eighth overall.
- Freshman Macy Smith scored 262 points, earning first among ninth grade girls, fifth among all girls and ninth overall.
- Junior Madison Overton had 259 points, as she came in second place among 11th grade girls, sixth in all girls and 11th
- Freshman Bri Hubbard netted 238 points, placing her fifth among ninth grade girls, 12th among all girls and 24th
The above student-athletes will participate in the Kentucky NASP (National Archery in the Schools Program) State Bullseye and 3D Tournaments on Friday and Saturday at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville.
Officials anticipate that 415 schools, represented by 9,241 student archers (grades 4-12), will participate in the nation’s largest annual school archery event, according to Kentucky Fish and Wildlife.
