A truck driver was “resuscitated” by EMS after becoming entrapped in a semi-truck that had flipped over in Breckinridge County.

The crash happened in the 1000 block of Hwy 1401 on Thursday morning, according to Breckinridge County Emergency Management (BCEM), when a semi, being driven north by 71-year-old Michael Schafer, flipped after a rear wheel on the trailer dipped off the roadway.

Schafer “was extracted and resuscitated at the scene by Breckinridge Central EMS and transported to Breck Memorial where Air Methods transported the patient to higher care,” BCEM said in a social media post.

It’s unclear where Schafer is receiving treatment.

Hwy 1401 from Hwy 60 to Harned Locust Hill Road was closed for a lengthy period of time as law enforcement investigated the crash and the semi was removed from the scene.

The Harned, Hardinsburg and Custer Fire Departments and Breckinridge County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, according to BCEM. WXBC.com reports that Kentucky State Police, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement and the Kentucky Highway Department also responded.
