Two people have been killed and a Kentucky State Police trooper seriously injured when a vehicle pulled into the path of a trooper responding “to an emergency call for service,” Kentucky State Police said.
The accident happened on Sunday morning just after 11:00 at the intersection of KY-80 and Perry Circle Road, just north of Hazard.
The KSP Critical Incident Response Team said a “trooper was responding to an emergency call for service in Knott County, traveling east on KY-80. Another vehicle, which was traveling west on KY-80, attempted to turn left onto Perry Circle Road” when it turned into the trooper’s path.
The driver and passenger in the vehicle were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Perry County Coroner’s Office. The trooper suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries and was airlifted to University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital.
The investigation is ongoing and is being led by the KSP Critical Incident Response Team.
