Grayson County turns in runner-up combined finish at home meet

Grayson County turned in another strong early-season showing on Tuesday, finishing 2nd overall in the combined standings at their home meet.

The Lady Cougars led the way with a 2nd-place finish (106 points) in the girls standings, while the Cougar boys added a 3rd-place finish (89 points). Combined, Grayson County totaled 195 points, good for runner-up honors on their home track.

Wins highlight strong individual efforts

The Lady Cougars were led by Reagan Coffey, who captured the 800-meter run in a time of 2:51.00. Coffey also contributed across multiple events, adding points in the high jump and helping power a pair of relay teams.

On the boys side, Levi Masden delivered a standout performance of his own, winning the 800 meters in 2:13.00 and later placing 3rd in the 1600 to round out a strong distance double.

In the field events, Grayson County dominated the pole vault. Keilan Hayes claimed the girls title at 7-06, with teammate Jayden Nugent finishing runner-up at 7-00 to give the Lady Cougars the top two spots. On the boys side, Cooper Justis cleared 8-06 to take first place.

Relays continue to be a strength

Grayson County once again showed depth in the relays on both sides.

The Lady Cougars finished 2nd in the 4×800 relay, while also placing 3rd in both the 4×100 and 4×200 relays. They capped the day with a 2nd-place finish in the 4×400, with Coffey, Hayes, Elizabeth Haycraft, and Nugent combining for a strong closing effort.

The Cougar boys also delivered solid relay results, finishing 2nd in the 4×800 and 4×200 relays, while the 4×400 team added a 3rd-place finish to close out the meet.

Hurdles, sprints, and field events add key points

Jayden Nugent continued her strong start to the season in the hurdles, finishing 2nd in the 300-meter hurdles, while also scoring in the 100 hurdles and contributing in relays and pole vault.

For the boys, Nathan Henderson added points in both hurdle events, including a 3rd-place finish in the 300 hurdles.

In the sprints and jumps, Elizabeth Haycraft turned in a solid day with a 4th-place finish in the 100 meters while also scoring in the triple jump. Bryanna Newton added a runner-up finish in the high jump, while Jane Bohannon and Lindsay Miller contributed points across multiple field events.

On the boys side, Josiah Judd led the way in the jumps with a 2nd-place finish in the triple jump, while Austin Tilford also scored in the event. Jackson Watson added points in the long jump and was part of multiple scoring relay teams, while Carson Keown contributed in both the discus and shot put.
