A Leitchfield man already facing several years in prison has been arrested by Kentucky State Police.

A trooper recently arrested 28-year-old Nikolas A. Montgomery on three probation violation warrants on Center Street in Caneyville, according to the arrest citations.

The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office in August 2025 served Montgomery with an indictment warrant out of Butler County charging him with three counts of second-degree burglary, two counts of theft by unlawful taking (more than $1,000, less than $10,000), two counts of receiving stolen property (more than $1,000, less than $10,000), engaging in organized crime, and first-degree criminal mischief. He was also served with two failure to appear warrants.

The indictments stem after an incident where Montgomery and 38-year-old Joseph W. Thomas, of Clarkson, were arrested by the Butler County Sheriff’s Office in May after the duo was accused of burglarizing a property in the 1900 block of McKendree Chapel Road where jewelry, a go-cart and other items were stolen.

The pair was also accused of stealing a Honda 4-wheeler later that same day from the 1700 block of Al Embry Road.

Police were able to identify the license plate of the truck hauling the Honda, which led deputies to the 600 block of Bryant Hollow Road, northeast of Morgantown, where police made contact with Montgomery and Thomas and recovered the stolen items.

In August 2025, K105 reported that Thomas was served with Butler County indictment warrants charging him with 12 counts related to the burglaries.

Montgomery is being held in the Grayson County Detention Center on multiple cash bonds.
