Helmetless passenger killed after motorcycle hits guardrail

A helmetless motorcycle passenger has been killed in a crash on the Hal Rogers Parkway.

Kentucky State Police said troopers responded to the accident on Tuesday afternoon at approximately 3:00 near the 35-mile marker of the Hal Rogers Parkway in Clay County.

State police said the investigation showed that an eastbound Harley-Davidson, being driven by 43-year-old Sam K. Minton, of Manchester, struck a guardrail after Minton lost control of the bike.

Killed in the crash was Minton’s passenger, 46-year-old Shelly M. Minton, of Manchester. She was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Clay County Coroner’s Office.

Sam Minton was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center where he is listed in stable condition.

Neither Minton was wearing a helmet, according to state police.

Police did not release the nature of the Mintons’ relationship

KSP Det. Shane Bowling is leading the ongoing investigation.
