A bridge on a major roadway in Falls of Rough that was closed earlier this week is expected to reopen to traffic soon.
The Rough River Lake Spillway Bridge on Hwy 79 (Falls of Rough Rd.) was shut down early Wednesday to allow a Kentucky Transportation Cabinet engineer to inspect the structure.
“We expect to get the bridge reopened later (Thursday),” KYTC spokesman Chris Jessie told K105. “That bridge has been in terrible shape for a long time.”
For now, steel plates will be placed over the damaged section of the roadway.
Officials had originally planned to begin repairs in June, but the project is now expected to start earlier than anticipated.
“There is a project there that is supposed to begin in a couple of weeks to rebuild that deck,” Jessie added. “We’re going to start that project (Monday) and try to get that going as quickly as possible.”
When that project begins, it is expected that traffic will be limited to just one lane with a temporary signal planned to be installed.
