
A Murray police officer has been accused of having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old.
On Tuesday, Kentucky State Police was contacted by the Murray Police Department requesting an investigation into allegations of sexual abuse made against one of their officers.
During the initial investigation, KSP detectives learned that Murray PD Det. Sgt. Justin T. Swope, 44, Almo, “met the victim in his official capacity in 2018 when the victim was 15-years-old,” state police said.
The female victim disclosed details of multiple sexual encounters with Swope that occurred when she was a juvenile, according to state police.
On Wednesday, KSP arrested Swope and charged him with two counts of third-degree rape and third-degree sodomy in Calloway County, and two counts of third-degree rape and third-degree sodomy in Trigg County.
Swope has since resigned from his position with Murray PD.
He was lodged in the McCracken County Detention Center.
The investigation remains ongoing by KSP Detective Sergeant Brian Hill.
