Thursday night at approximately 5:30, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Caneyville Fire Department and EMS responded to the 93 mile marker of the Western Kentucky Parkway on the report of a single-vehicle accident.
Upon arriving at the scene, Deputies Dylan Bohn and Fred Norder discovered a Toyota Avalon, being driven by 23-year-old Sheehan Lake, of Murray, upside down in the parkway’s median.
According to police, and extensive marks at the scene, Lake was traveling east on the parkway when he lost control of the car, slid sideways and entered the median. As the vehicle left the median on the westbound side of the parkway, the Toyota was propelled into the air for about 50 feet.
Likely landing on its side, and sliding at a high rate of speed across the westbound lanes, the vehicle struck a guardrail with its roof, breaking several ground supports away from the railing, while pushing the ground supports nearly two feet.
The Toyota then slid nearly 40 yards in the westbound lanes before again entering the median and flipping onto its top. In total, the Toyota traveled more than 300 feet after Lake lost control in the eastbound lanes.
Lake, suffering a substantial gash in his head, was transported by EMS to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center.
