
Wendell E. Sipes, age 84, of Frankfort, KY, passed away Saturday, (December 23, 2017) at the Masonic Home of Shelbyville.
He was born on March 26, 1933 in Grayson County, KY, the son of Hessie and Virgie Coats Sipes.
He served as a Tank Driver in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955 during the Korean Conflict in Maven, Germany, was a maintenance man for National City Bank and retired from Douglas Tire Service in 2010 after working there with with his son-in-law for nine years. He was a member of the Masonic Home 940 F&M and the Providence Baptist Church in Frankfort, KY.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jeanette Durbin Sipes; a son, Gary Wayne Sipes of Louisville, KY; a daughter, Sheila Sipes Douglas (Thomas Ray) of Frankfort; seven grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; five step-greatgrandchildren; a brother, James C. Sipes of Louisville; a sister, Irene Rowe of La Grange, KY. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Wendell “Earl” Sipes II; a granddaughter, Milia Sipes Webb; a daughter-in-law, Mary Sipes; three sisters, Doris Sipes, Mary J. Hard and Wilma Rogers; and one brother, Johnnie Sipes.
Frankfort area services will be at 11:00 a.m. (ET) Thursday, (December 28, 2017) at the Providence Baptist Church, 6265 Georgetown Rd., Frankfort, KY 40601. Bro. Dave Rayborn will be officiating. Visitation will be at the Providence Baptist Church from 10:00 a.m. (ET) Thursday until time of services.
A second Visitation will be held at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. (ET) Thursday (3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. local time) with a Eulogy Service to be held 5:30 p.m. (ET). Burial will be in the Layman Memorial Cemetery.
