A deputy at the Montgomery County Detention Center has been arrested for drug trafficking and promoting contraband.
Montgomery County Jailer Eric Jones said his office began a drug investigation, in cooperation with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, after authorities received a tip about drug trafficking inside the jail.
Jones said the investigation, which utilized video surveillance, revealed that deputy jailer Brian Prater introduced methamphetamine and tobacco into the facility, according to multiple media reports.
Prater was arrested and charged with promoting contraband and conspiracy to distribute meth, and lodged in the Powell County Detention Center.
Prater’s arrest comes after McCracken County Jailer Tonya Ray was indicted and arrested last week on a first-degree perjury charge related to her lying in an investigation into the activities of one of her deputy jailers.
Police said Ray lied in her testimony in a case involving former deputy jailer Ben Green in October in which Green was charged with 16 counts of official misconduct.
According to authorities, the charges against Green were dismissed immediately following Ray’s arrest. She was lodged in the Christian County Jail.
