The former cop who shot a telephone repairman has been released from jail but has been placed under house arrest.
William Calvert, 75, of Scottsville, was released from the Allen County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond, with several stipulations tied to his release, including being placed under house arrest.
In November, 47-year-old Jeffrey Powell was at Calvert’s residence working a service call for North Central Telephone Cooperative when Calvert shot him. The details leading up to the shooting are unclear, but police believe alcohol was a factor in the shooting.
Powell was airlifted to Skyline Medical Center.
Calvert was arrested and charged with attempted murder.
He is a former Scottsville Police Department officer who retired in the late 90s.
