In the last couple of weeks we have been bombarded with winter weather, which has resulted in many of us being trapped inside, forced to wait on warmer temps. This can most certainly result in boredom and even a case of the blues. So, if you are feeling shook by all the bleak winter weather, try out these 9 ways to beat being bummed and get back to feeling energetic!
- Learn Something New- Learn a new language, how to sew, or play an instrument. Put your newly granted free time to good use by mastering a new skill and possibly creating a new beloved hobby.
- Exercise- Getting up and getting active is one of the best ways to beat those winter blues. Moving around will cause your body to produce endorphins, which are natural mood enhancers. You’ll be feeling vibrant in no time!
- Spend time with friends- If you are able to get out and be with friends, go do it! Spending time with buddies is a great way to lift your spirits.
- Take Ben Franklin’s advice: Have you heard the saying, “early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise?” Use these words as your motivation to get up and get productive rather than spending too much time lounging. Set a daily goal and work to fulfill it. The accomplishment will make you feel active and ready for a new day and new endeavor.
- Start a new project: Maybe start a new book, work on some cool crafts, or check off some home improvement tasks you’ve been meaning to get to, but just haven’t. Keeping your mind motivated toward finishing projects, that you may have not had time for in the past, is a great way to kick the blues!
- Take time to do something you enjoy: Don’t pass up the little moments that bring pure enjoyment to your life. Take a bubble bath, meditate, or do whatever you find brings you peace and happiness. It’s a great way to keep your mind at ease and help you feel more refreshed.
- Make one night of the week a special event: Make it date night for you and your significant other or make it a book club evening for you and your friends. Sometimes, we get in a dull routine and find ourselves lacking excitement and fun. Mix it up and give yourself something to plan for and get excited about! It will help break up the monotony of the week.
- Spend some time training your brain: I am extremely guilty of watching too much TV when I have to be home for extended amounts of time, but rather than starting another hour of Netflix binge-watching, try working a puzzle, complete a tough Sudoku, or journal about your goals. Keeping your mind fresh and trained is always beneficial.
- Take a Shopping Spree for Spring: Now you definitely don’t want to go overboard, but there is no harm in getting your wardrobe ready for the upcoming season. Delve into the fashion world of shorts, sundresses, and tank-tops. Although you can’t wear your new additions for a while, it will be exciting to see them hanging in your closet just waiting for warmer weather.
There are only 55 days until Spring officially begins. Let’s stick together to beat the Winter Blues and stay pumped for warmer weather!
Until next time.
