The Millwood man indicted by the Grayson County Grand Jury on three counts of sexual abuse and sodomy of an infant has been indicted again, this time by a federal grand jury.
James Armes, 36, was indicted by a federal grand jury on multiple counts of production of child pornography, multiple counts of distribution of child pornography, several counts of possession of child pornography, according Grayson County Sheriff Norman Chaffins.
Upon Armes’ initial arrest by Deputy Rance Whobrey and Kentucky State Police Troopers Joey Beasley and Clayton Ellis on December 3, 2017, video images of Armes sodomizing a 10-month-old baby were discovered on his phone.
Sheriff Chaffins said the evidence was turned over to federal authorities, resulting in additional child porn images being discovered, which led to the federal indictments. Armes faces up to 400 years in federal prison if found guilty on each count. Additionally, he faces up to 40 years to life on the Grayson County indictments.
The investigation into Armes, who was sought for misdemeanor warrants out of Cumberland County, began when Dep. Whobrey was notified by a family member of Armes about his location.
The case was turned over to Grayson County Sheriff’s Office Detective and retired FBI agent, Dennis Dvorjak. Det. Dvorjak consulted with federal authorities and the decision was made to turn over all evidence to the FBI and pursue charges federally.
“A sexual predator who would have, no doubt, continued to prey on our children was removed from the streets of Grayson County,” Sheriff Chaffins said. “The FBI’s investigation will help keep it that way. The images on his phone were some of the most vile and disgusting images we have ever had to view. Monsters like James Armes should NEVER be allowed to walk our streets again.”
