After a social media challenge, people donated over $5,500 to the Shop With A Cop program, persuading Grayson County Sheriff Norman Chaffins and his deputies to create a lip sync challenge video. And he’s asking for the public’s help.

Police departments and sheriff’s offices around the nation are producing lip sync videos (and publishing on various social media platforms, primarily Facebook) that are quickly gaining thousands if not hundreds of thousands of hits. The popular videos are seen by some as a way to humanize police officers to counteract the negative publicity law enforcement, on a national scale, has experienced over the last few years.

Chaffins said they will be shooting part of the video around 5:00 or 6:00 Saturday night at the Twin Lakes National Fiddler Championship on the east side of the Town Square in Leitchfield, and he wants Grayson County residents to be part of the video. The sheriff asks that participants be familiar with the song, “This is my Town,” by Montgomery Gentry. Specifically, the sheriff said, “Be familiar with the part of the song that says ‘na na nah nah nah! This is my town!’”

“This video will go viral and you need to be in it,” Sheriff Chaffins exclaimed in a post on his personal Facebook page. “Keep in mind that we may go earlier or we may go later than five or 6 o’clock. So, we need you to be ready at a moment’s notice. I look forward to seeing you there.”

Additionally, the sheriff’s office will have pulled pork barbecue with all the fixins and drinks for sale in front of the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office.

The price is $6 for a meal (includes sandwich, potatoes, corn on the cob, and a drink), $3 for a sandwich only and $1 for a drink. All proceeds go to Shop With A Cop.
