More charges could be filed in the deadly January shooting at Marshall County High School.
Marshall County prosecutors say then 16-year-old Gabriel Parker may not be the only person to face charges related to the shooting, as prosecutors are considering charges against the teenager’s stepfather, 26-year-old Justin Minyard, according to media reports.
Previously, police said the then 15-year-old Parker used his stepfather’s 9mm Ruger handgun in the January 23 shooting that left two students dead and a more than a dozen injured. Parker told police he found the gun under a pile of dirty clothes in an unlocked closet.
To successfully prosecute Minyard, the Marshall County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office would have to prove Minyard recognized signs Parker was troubled and still failed to safely store the firearm. Minyard has told police he didn’t notice warning signs in Parker’s behavior leading up to the shooting.
