A toddler has died after accidentally shooting himself in the head with a handgun.
Kentucky State Police said the child, who just celebrated his third birthday, was on the front porch of his residence Friday morning in the Totz community in Harlan County when he grabbed an unsecured handgun and shot himself. Multiple reports indicate the boy’s mother and other adults were at the home when the shooting occurred.
The child was transported to a Harlan County hospital where he was pronounced dead by the Harlan County Coroner.
This marks the second deadly accidental shooting involving toddlers in Kentucky in just over two weeks. On August 15 in Louisville, two-year-old Montreal Dunn shot himself in the head at his home. He died the next evening at Norton Children’s Hospital.
