At approximately 8:36 Monday night, Grayson County Deputy Mark Newman reported to Central Dispatch that a recklessly driving vehicle was fleeing at a high rate of speed, east on Hwy 88 (Peonia Road).

Newman reported to dispatch that the vehicle, with two occupants, was intermittently driving in the westbound lane at excessive speeds as it fled.

Deputy Kelsey Overton soon joined the pursuit as the chase entered Hardin County and into Hart County, as the vehicle continued to flee east on Hwy 88.

Newman reported via radio traffic to dispatch that the fleeing vehicle was reaching speeds of 70 to 105 miles per hour as the Chevrolet Cruze continued to recklessly pass vehicles. Newman said the Chevy was also driving in the opposite lane of traffic as it rounded curves.

As the pursuit neared Munfordville, after passing through Cub Run and Kessinger, deputies were informed that spike strips would be laid at the Hwy 88 railroad crossing just west of Munfordville. Not long after that radio transmission, Newman reported to dispatch that he had been involved in a wreck, but was unhurt.

According to Newman, a vehicle pulled in front of him near County Barn Road and slowed. As Newman was passing the vehicle the cruiser entered a ditch and became disabled. Only moments later, though, the fleeing Chevrolet was also disabled, apparently by the spike strips, and the two occupants, a male and female, were detained.

Unconfirmed reports indicate the Cruze may have been stolen, as the license plate on the vehicle belongs to another car. The license plate on the Chevy came back to a resident of Cub Run.

At least one person has been transported to the Grayson County Detention Center as a result of the chase. The driver faces multiple felony charges.

Police have not released information on this chase. K105 will have more on this story as it becomes available.

This chase follows an October 4 pursuit involving the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office that ended in Henderson County. The suspect in that chase, 24-year-old Alek Nelson, of Irvington, was hospitalized after crashing, following a PIT maneuver by Kentucky State Police. He is now lodged in the Daviess County Detention Center.
