The Grayson County Public Library (GCPL) is participating in a cooperative effort with libraries across the state to ensure every child goes to school with clean underwear that properly fits.

GCPL Director Lisa Jones said the Library’s goal is to receive 500 pairs, with the underwear distributed evenly to the four public elementary schools in Grayson County.

“Underwear is a basic need and one that is easily forgotten,” Jones said. “Area schools scramble to meet the necessities of children who need clean underwear due to accidents at school or issues at home. Because parents often are unable to bring fresh underwear to their children during school hours, children can miss valuable learning time in the classroom.”

Drop off packages of new underwear for boys and girls, preferably sizes 4-16, until December 15 at the Grayson County Public Library, located at 163 Carroll Gibson Boulevard.

“Donations will help replenish Grayson County elementary schools’ supplies of emergency underpants and provide direct assistance to each school’s Family Resource Centers,” according to Jones.

She added that the library’s collection of Captain Underpants’ children’s books will be available to check out during the Drop Your Drawers campaign (and beyond).
