The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is looking for students to submit artwork for the annual Adopt-a-Highway Art Contest.
The cabinet encourages school-aged students from across the commonwealth to submit original artwork to promote a litter-free Kentucky and earn a prize. The entry deadline is Friday, November 16.
The Adopt-a-Highway Program’s Art Contest is held annually to increase public awareness about the damaging effects of litter, change attitudes and behaviors about littering and educate Kentuckians about the Adopt-a-Highway program, according to a cabinet press release.
The contest is divided in to four age groups: five- to eight-years-old, nine- to 11-years-old, 12- to 14-years-old, and 15- to 18-years-old. Winners of each age division earn a $100 gift card, with second and third place finishers receiving a $50 gift card.
Additionally, first through third place recipients for all age groups will have their work featured in the Adopt-a-Highway Calendar and receive framed prints of their posters. The originals will be framed and displayed at the Transportation Cabinet’s Conference Center in Frankfort.
Last year, nearly 1,000 students from across the commonwealth entered the contest.
