As anticipated, former State Auditor Adam Edelen has officially declared his candidacy for governor.

Edelen made the announcement Monday in Lexington with his family and running mate Gill Holland, a Louisville businessman,  by his side.

Edelen is the fourth Democrat to declare for the race, joining Attorney General Andy Beshear, House Minority Floor Leader Rocky Adkins and Geoff Young, a former state employee.

Also announcing his run for governor will be GOP Rep. Robert Goforth, of East Bernstadt, who will make his official announcement Tuesday morning at the London Community Center.  Gov. Matt Bevin, who announced several months ago that he was running for re-election, has not yet filed candidacy paperwork with the Registry or the Secretary of State’s office.

The primary is slated for May 21. Candidates have until Tuesday, January 29 to file candidacy papers.
