Former Miss America Heather French Henry is scheduled to file to run for Secretary of State on Friday.
The 44-year-old Henry, born in Maysville, notified the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance Tuesday that she intends to begin raising money for a run for Secretary of State. Current Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes cannot run again because of term limits.
Henry, a Democrat, is married to former Kentucky Lt. Gov. Steve Henry, and has worked for the state Department of Veterans Affairs since July 1, 2014. She now is deputy commissioner of the department. Her father was a wounded veteran of the Vietnam War.
Henry won the 2000 Miss America pageant.
As a child, Henry’s family moved to Augusta, in Bracken County, where she was raised. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning.
Four candidates have filed to run for Secretary of State, including Democrat Jason Griffith, of Whitesburg, and Republicans Michael G. Adams, of Louisville, Andrew English, of Crestwood, and Carl Nett, of Louisville.
The filing deadline is Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
