The Grayson County High School teacher arrested on March 12, 2018 and charged with third-degree sodomy has attempted to contact his victim, against the order of the court.
Jonathan Jones, 27, of Leitchfield, attempted to contact his female victim through the social media app SnapChat on January 6. The victim and her mother notified authorities of the attempt by Jones to make contact.
According to a stipulation of Jones’ bond, he is not allowed to contact his victim.
Court documents said that on January 22, Jones was given 60 days in the Grayson County Detention Center for the offense, with 50 of those days probated. He was ordered to serve 10 days in jail on five consecutive weekends, beginning on Friday, January 25 at 6:00 p.m. He is released at 6:00 p.m. on Sundays.
Jones’ arrest citation states in part, “… (the) defendant unlawfully committed the offense of sodomy in the third-degree, when as a person in position of authority, he engaged in deviate sexual intercourse with a female under the age of 18, with whom he comes into contact as a result of that position.”
The arrest citation says the offense took place on March 8, 2018 at Jones’ residence.
The applicable Kentucky Revised Statute says a person is guilty of third-degree sodomy when, “Being in a position of authority or position of special trust … (and) he or she engages in deviate sexual intercourse with a minor less than 18-years-old with whom he or she comes into contact as a result of that position.”
The charge is a class D felony, punishable by one to five years in prison.
Jones’ trial is scheduled for next month.
