Playing at Warren East, the number-two team ranked in the state, the Lady Cougars were shut out and run-ruled, 10-0 in five innings Thursday in Bowling Green.
To add insult to injury, two Warren East pitchers combined for a no-hitter. Junior Katie Gardner pitched the first four innings and pitched to just one over the minimum batters. The only base-runner she allowed came in the third inning when third-baseman Lauren Stevenson hit a ground ball to shortstop Hailey Hymer. Hymer’s throw was high and Stevenson was safe at first.
Hymer struck out eight of the 13 batters she faced. Freshman Emma Markham then pitched the fifth inning and struck out the side.
The Lady Raiders scored in all five innings, with three in the first, two more in the second, three in the third and one in the fourth to lead 9-0. They then scored one in the fifth on a wild pitch to put an end to the game.
In their three games against tough competition, the Lady Cougars (0-3) have been outscored 33-3.
