John Paul Harris, age 92, of Grayson County, KY, passed away Friday, (May 17, 2019) at his home in Leitchfield, KY.

Paul was born on November 26, 1926 to Oscar Embry and Anna Harrell Harris. He was raised by his uncle and aunt, Bro. Todd and Tina Kiper Harris, after his mother passed during his birth.

He was a retired self-employed plumber and electrician for Harris Home Service. After retirement he was employed by Twin Lakes Taxi Service for 10 years. Paul served 5 years as Chairman of Breckinridge-Grayson Head Start. Paul enlisted in the Army in 1945.  He served his country in WWII as a Clerk, General with the Headquarters Company, 2nd Major Port in Japan. He was assigned to a labor section which hired both American and Japanese civilian workers. He also interviewed Japanese Nationals through an interpreter for hiring purposes. He served as Chief Clerk handling correspondence through the office. Paul enjoyed reading western books and doing Seek and Find puzzles with his grandchildren. He was a life-time member of VFW Post 3852 in Falls of Rough and a member of American Legion Post 81 in Leitchfield. He was a charter member of Clearview Baptist Church.

Paul  is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ruby Stewart Harris; six children, Tina Johnson, Paulette Gibson, Dannie Harris (Sheila), Renee Mashburn, Paula Coates (Jason) and Tracey Collins (Billy); several grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Other than his parents and foster parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, J. T. Harris; two sisters, Angie Harris and Ica Harris Wooden; one brother-in-law, Willard Wooden; one daughter, Brenda Colemore; three sons-in-law, Richard Johnson, Hoover Gipson and James Mashburn; one granddaughter and two great-granddaughters.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, (May 20, 2019) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Chester Shartzer will be officiating. Burial will be in the Leitchfield Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday and from 9:00 a.m. Monday until time of services.
