The city of Glasgow has a new police chief.
Jennifer Arbogast has been appointed police chief after the retirement of Guy Howie, who served in law enforcement for nearly 40 years. The Glasgow City Council voted to approve the hire on Monday night.
Arbogast began her career at the Glasgow Police Department in 2002 as a patrol officer, according to a press release, and has worked her way up the ranks since then, first as a detective, then detective sergeant. She was promoted to captain in 2014. Last year, she completed a 10 week leadership training program with the FBI.
Glasgow Mayor Harold Armstrong said Arbogast beat out six other candidates for the position. Arbogast is the first female police chief in the department’s history.
