A Leitchfield woman has been killed in a single-vehicle accident in Edmonson County.
Wednesday morning at approximately 9:50, Kentucky State Police responded to the 1800 block of Nolin Dam Road, near Mammoth Cave, on the report of fatality accident.
KSP said its preliminary investigation revealed that 58-year-old Charlotte A. Newton was driving a 1996 Buick passenger car west on Nolin Dam Road when her vehicle briefly exited the edge of the roadway. Police said Newton then overcorrected the vehicle, causing the Buick to leave the road and overturn, ejecting Newton.
She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Edmonson County Coroner’s Office. A passenger in the vehicle, 17-year-old Charles W. McStoots, of Mammoth Cave, was airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Newton and McStoots were not wearing a seat belt.
