A Leitchfield man has been arrested after attempting to rape a woman.
Wednesday morning at approximately 6:00, the Leitchfield Police Department responded to a sexual assault that occurred at a Leavette Avenue residence.
Leitchfield PD Detective Kevin Smith said the investigation showed that a man, 55-year-old Milton R. Joey Higdon, arrived at the victim’s front door and asked to speak with the female resident. When the resident told Higdon to leave, Smith said the suspect forced his way into the house before telling her that he was going to “rape” her. The suspect then dragged the victim to a bedroom, according to Smith.
The female, though, fought Higdon and was able to break away and flee the residence before going to a neighbor’s house and calling for help. Higdon fled the scene prior to law enforcement’s arrival but was later arrested.
He was charged with first-degree rape (attempt) and first-degree burglary and lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
The victim sustained minor injuries but refused medical treatment.
There are no other suspects and additional charges are pending.
