A Leitchfield felon reportedly under the influence of intoxicants and in possession of a handgun was arrested after being found walking along North Main Street, in Leitchfield.
At approximately 12:30 Friday morning, Grayson County Dispatch alerted law enforcement that 52-year-old Jeffrey King was armed, had been behaving erratically and was walking on North Main Street toward Walgreens, from near the North Main Street railroad track crossing. In less than a minute, Grayson County Deputy DJ Newton, who was in the city limits, made contact with King at St. Camillus Urgent Care & Family Practice at 312 N. Main Street.
According to the arrest citation, as Newton approached King, the suspect “made furtive movements toward his waistband with his right hand, pulling on the bottom of his shirt.” Newton drew his weapon and ordered King to the ground. The suspect complied and Newton placed King in handcuffs for his protection.
Newton then located the handgun in a holster on King’s hip. While searching the suspect, Newton also found a pipe with methamphetamine residue. King additionally “emitted an odor of alcohol” and displayed slurred speech and bloodshot eyes, according to the citation.
He was arrested and charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), alcohol intoxication in a public place, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
King was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
Leitchfield Police Department Sgt. Keith Harrell and Officer Tim Moutardier assisted Newton at the scene.
