
In a rare triple-header at the middle school Cougar Gym, the Cougars won all three games against the visiting Edmonson County Wildcats.
In the opener, the sixth-graders scored the first 19 points and put three players into double figures in the game on their way to a 59-13 win over the Wildcats.
The seventh-graders then got scoring from 13 different players in their 55-36 victory over the Wildcats.
Finally, Tayden Logsdon led all scorers with 28 points in the eighth-grade’s 56-32 win.
SIXTH-GRADE GAME
A Haylon Dean three-pointer, his third of the first period, gave the sixth-graders a 19-0 lead at the 3:20 mark. The Wildcats did not get on the board until the 1:36 mark of the first period when Jake Roy hit one-of-two at the foul line. Grayson County led by 21 points, 22-1 at the end of the period.
When Jake Bratcher hit a 15-footer at the 3:32 mark of the second period, the Cougars led by 25 points, 26-1, which meant the rest of the game would be played with a running clock. The Cougars led by 36 points, 38-2 at the half.
Grayson County then outscored the Wildcats 15-9 in the third period to lead by 42 points, 53-11 heading into the fourth quarter.
Dean led all scorers in the game with 18 points, which included four three-pointers. Bratcher finished with 15 points. Gage Napier joined those two in double figures with 11 points.
Chase Baunach had six points, while Kadin Hanshaw had five. Two players, Jack Logsdon and Brody Armstrong both finished with two points to close out the scoring, and Logsdon led the Cougars with six rebounds.
SEVENTH-GRADE GAME
Grayson County led 3-0 when Edmonson’s Carter Swihart put the Wildcats on the board by hitting one-of-two at the line. Grayson County then scored the next 14 points in a row to lead 17-1 with 1:28 left in the first period. The Cougars led 17-4 heading into the second quarter, and led by 15, 27-12 at the half.
Grayson County led by 21 points, 41-20 at the start of the fourth quarter and when Dawson Childress hit a 10-foot running jumper with 4:15 left the Cougars led by 25 points, 47-22 and the clock began to run constantly.
Swihart led all scorers in the game with 14 points for the Wildcats. Landon Haycraft led the Cougars with 11 points. Houston Brooks scored eight, while Isaiah Poteet had seven and Samuel Clemons had six.
Zack Bratcher and Kobe Martin both scored four points, while Kadin Hanshaw and Grayson Chaffins added three apiece. Four players, Childress, Hayden Robinson, Garrett Killion, and Gage Napier all scored two points. Jack Logsdon closed out the scoring with one point.
EIGHTH-GRADE GAME
Grayson County led by six, 15-9 at the end of the first period and when Edmonson’s Noah Meredith hit two free throws to open the scoring in the second period the lead was just four, 15-11. But the Cougars responded with 10 straight to lead by 14, 25-11 with 2:30 left in the first half. They led by 14 points, 32-18 at the break.
Grayson County led by 20 points, 46-26 heading into the fourth quarter and when Devaron Kirk hit one-of-two at the free throw line at the 3:49 mark, the lead had ballooned to 25 points, 51-26, and the clock began to run continuously.
In addition to his 28 points, Logsdon pulled down nine rebounds. Isaiah Poteet finished with eight points, while Mason Cariel had seven. Kirk finished with six points and he added five rebounds. Bradley Bishop scored five points and Landon Haycraft added two to close out the scoring.
