A high-speed pursuit that began in Breckinridge County has ended with one person dead after a police shooting in southern Indiana.

Sunday afternoon at approximately 5:00, the Breckinridge County Sheriff’s Office responded to a rolling domestic dispute near Harned. Deputies pursued the vehicle into Meade County where the chase was terminated because of unsafe conditions, GCSO Chief Deputy Bruce Anthony told WXBC.com.

Law enforcement began pursuing the vehicle once again in Meade County where speeds reached 100 miles per hour and resulted in a police cruiser being hit. The chase then wound through Brandenburg and into Harrison County, Indiana.

The Corydon Police Department and Harrison County Sheriff’s Office deployed spike strips near Corydon, bringing the pursuit to an end.

As officers approached the disabled vehicle, someone inside the car fired shots at police. Officers returned fire, fatally striking the armed female passenger. The armed male inside the vehicle was also struck by gunfire.

Anthony said the female was pronounced dead at the scene while the male was airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital.

No officers were struck by gunfire.

Police have not yet released the names of the two people in the fleeing vehicle, which authorities believe was stolen.

The shooting is being investigated by the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office.
