In accordance with Gov. Andy Beshear’s mandate that all government offices cease in-person operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Grayson County Sheriff Norman Chaffins has released a video detailing changes in how the sheriff’s office will serve the public during the social distancing mandate.

In the roughly seven minute video (found below), Chaffins said the doors to the sheriff’s office, at 44 Public Square in Leitchfield, will be locked but various staff will be in the building to serve the public.

Chaffins said the following changes are in place:

  • No private vehicle inspections will be conducted until further notice
  • Walk-in complaints will be received but not inside the sheriff’s office building — Chaffins advised those arriving at the office to simply knock on the door and someone will help.
  • The sheriff’s office will continue to collect property taxes — There will be a tote outside the sheriff’s office to collect property taxes. Simply place the tax payment in the tote and a member of the GCSO staff will retrieve the payment and provide a receipt if required. Citizens may also pay property taxes online or via mail.
  • The sheriff emphasized that his office will continue to serve warrants and papers.

“All of our services are going to continue,” Chaffins said. “We will continue to enforce our laws and do whatever it takes to protect and serve you and your families.”

In this unique and trying time, Chaffins urged citizens to, “Be kind to your neighbor; look out for one another … and follow the guidelines set forth by the CDC.”
