A Hardin County Detention Center deputy jailer from Clarkson has been charged with stealing several thousand dollars from a Hardin County residence.

David E. Ford, 58, was arrested at his home Wednesday morning by the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office. He was lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center but has since posted a $10,000 unsecured bond, according to a report by The News-Enterprise.

The newspaper reports that, according to the arrest citation, a prisoner at the detention center told Ford where he could find “hidden cash” at a Salt River Road residence in Hardin County. On Tuesday, jail officials were told about the conversation and that Ford had stolen the money.

A search warrant was obtained for Ford’s residence where police found a “large amount of cash.”

The suspect was charged with theft by unlawful taking (more than $10,000), a class C felony.
