On Saturday, K105 reported two cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) had been confirmed in Grayson County. On Monday, Judge-Executive Kevin Henderson said four additional COVID-19 cases have been confirmed, raising the total to six confirmed cases of the virus in the county, diagnosed either over the weekend or Monday morning.
Those six cases brings Grayson County’s confirmed COVID-19 cases over the last nine days to 13. In total, Grayson County has 16 confirmed cases of the virus. Three victims have recovered.
The six new cases, all tied to Grayson Nursing & Rehabilitation, include a 31-year-old female (in stable condition), 20-year-old female (stable condition), 20-year-old male, and 47-year-old male who are all employees of Grayson Nursing & Rehabilitation. The other two positive COVID-19 cases announced on Monday include an 87-year-old female (critical condition) and 69-year-old female (stable condition), both residents of Grayson Nursing & Rehabilitation.
One of the victims listed as a Grayson Nursing & Rehabilitation employee is no longer employed at the facility, but worked there earlier this month, according to Henderson.
Officials said 223 people in the county have been tested, with 181 of those tests coming back negative. Twenty-six tests are pending.
Beginning the rash of cases in Grayson County was an announcement last weekend (April 12) that two new COVID-19 patients had been diagnosed, a 52-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman.
On Wednesday, Henderson reported that a 67-year-old Grayson County man had tested positive for COVID-19. At a separate announcement on Wednesday, officials reported William Dean Smith’s COVID-19 diagnosis. Smith, who was a short-time resident of Grayson Nursing & Rehabilitation, passed away Friday at the age of 96.
Then, on Friday, Henderson announced that an 18-year-old female and a 90-year-old female tested positive for coronavirus. The 90-year-old victim is a resident of Grayson Nursing & Rehabilitation and, at the time of the announcement, was in stable condition at the facility.
A statement issued by Grayson Nursing & Rehabilitation Administrator Jeff Baxley regarding the new COVID-19 cases reads as follows:
