After four new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Grayson County were reported over the weekend, Judge-Executive Kevin Henderson announced at his Monday briefing that seven new cases have been diagnosed since Sunday.

The 11 new cases confirmed since Friday afternoon increase Grayson County’s total to 86 cases of the virus.

Nine of the new cases arise from either Grayson Nursing & Rehabilitation (GNR) or Spring View Nursing & Rehabilitation (SVNR). Those positive cases include six from GNR: an 18-year-old man (employee), 81-year-old woman (resident), 82-year-old man (resident), 88-year-old woman (resident), 71-year-old woman (resident), and 26-year-old man (resident).

Cases tied to SVNR include a 64-year-old woman (resident), 69-year-old woman (resident) and 98-year-old woman (resident).

Additional positive COVID-19 cases diagnosed in Grayson County since Friday include a 64-year-old man and a 55-year-old man.

Five of Grayson County’s active COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, according to Henderson, and no coronavirus-related deaths were recorded in the county over the weekend, keeping the county’s total at five deaths.

Of the 86 coronavirus cases diagnosed in Grayson County, 41 are residents of Grayson Nursing & Rehabilitation and 15 are employees. Eleven Spring View Nursing & Rehabilitation residents have also tested positive. In total, 67 (77.9 percent) of the county’s 86 COVID-19 cases are tied to the county’s two nursing homes, with four of the county’s five virus-related deaths tied to GNR.

Four Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center employees have also tested positive for the virus.

Henderson said 586 tests have been administered in the county to date, with 445 returned negative and 55 test results pending. Twenty-two victims who tested positive for coronavirus have been “released from quarantine.”

One of the pending results is an employee of the Grayson County Health Department (GCHD). Health department Director Josh Embry did not attend Monday’s briefing, as GCHD employees who came into contact with the person who underwent testing are being isolated out of an abundance of caution.

The GCHD is currently staffed with employees who had no contact with the staff member displaying symptoms.

Henderson said COVID-19 briefings will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Friday this week. As always, one can watch the briefings live on K105’s Facebook and YouTube pages or listen on K105.
