On Sunday, Gov. Andy Beshear announced 383 new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) were confirmed on Saturday and Sunday.

Of the new cases, 316 were reported on Saturday, while 67 were reported Sunday.

Kentucky now has had 15,232 cases of the virus diagnosed since the onset of the pandemic.

“This virus is not going away yet,” Beshear. said “We see numbers spiking in states all across the country. “We see states in the south like Florida and Texas with rising cases and know it could happen here in Kentucky. We need to be vigilant so that doesn’t happen here in Kentucky. It wasn’t anything magic that lead us to our early success. It was us truly coming together as a people and showing that the lives of other Kentuckians is more important to us than anything.”

The governor also reported five new deaths over the weekend, including three women, ages 78, 30 and 84, from Fayette County; an 81-year-old man from Franklin County; and a 93-year-old woman from Shelby County.

The five new deaths raise the state’s death toll to 558 (3.7 percent) victims.

No recovery, testing or hospitalization information was released on Sunday, but as of Saturday, there had been at least 391,765 (8.9 percent of population) coronavirus tests performed in Kentucky, and at least 3,730 (24.5 percent) patients had recovered from the virus.
