A Clarkson man has been seriously injured after his ankle and foot were trapped under a minivan following a single-vehicle accident.

Saturday night at approximately 10:15, Grayson County Sheriff’s Office Sergeants Fred Norder and Zane Greer, the East Grayson and Clarkson Fire Departments and EMS responded to the 500 block of Antioch Church Road and found that 23-year-old Kristopher Cochran was partially trapped underneath his Oldsmobile Silhouette minivan.

Cochran, who was conscious and obviously in considerable pain, was freed after Clarkson fire personnel, led by Chief Andy Cain, used lift equipment to raise the van off Cochran’s lower leg. He was trapped for about 45 minutes.

Cochran was transported by EMS to near the East Grayson Fire Department and airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital.

The crash investigation showed that Cochran likely suffered a medical emergency causing him to leave the rain-soaked roadway in a straight stretch, where he traveled in a ditch for about 50 yards. The minivan then made a hard left, crossed and exited the roadway into a tree line.

The vehicle struck a large tree on its front passenger side wheel, flipping the van at least once and ejecting Cochran, with the minivan then landing on top of his ankle and foot.
