A Hardin County man has been arrested on a federal carjacking charge related to the shooting death of an activist in Louisville.

Ashton C. Nally, 20, of Vine Grove, was arrested in Madisonville by the FBI Sunday morning. He was charged with armed robbery of a vehicle. As of Thursday morning, he had not been charged with murder. He is being held in the Oldham County Detention Center.

According to federal authorities, the arrest was executed through a cooperative effort between the FBI, Louisville Metro Police Department Homicide Unit, Madisonville Police Department, and the U.S. Secret Service.

Killed in the November 23 carjacking was 21-year-old Travis Nagdy, who led protests in Louisville related to the police shooting of Breonnna Taylor. The carjacking took place near the victim’s home on Crittenden Drive.

Media outlets in Louisville report that surveillance video obtained by Louisville police shows someone approaching Nagdy outside his home. An argument ensues followed by three gunshots. Nagby then falls to the ground with, police believe, Nally leaving the scene in Nagdy’s vehicle. The stolen vehicle was found after Nally collided with a parked car.

Police, according to The News-Enterprise, reportedly received a tip on November 30 saying that Nally shot Nagdy and fled in the victim’s vehicle. After Nally crashed, he ran to Preston Highway and tossed the handgun used to killed Nagdy.

The Associated Press reports that Nagdy’s girlfriend was in the car when Nally stole the vehicle.

Nally faces up to life in prison if convicted.
