A Caneyville man has been arrested for fleeing from Grayson County deputies at a traffic stop.
Thursday night at midnight, Grayson County Deputy Andy Vincent executed a traffic stop on a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu after discovering the driver, 37-year-old Daron L. Fentress, had a warrant for his arrest out of Grayson County.
Soon after the stop, Sgt. Zane Greer arrived and assisted Vincent.
After confirming the driver was indeed Fentress, Vincent informed the suspect that he had a warrant for his arrest. Fentress then began behaving aggressively, according to the arrest citation, as he refused to exit the vehicle and began “punching the steering wheel multiple times.”
After being told several times that he needed to exit the car, Fentress finally complied. But as the suspect turned to face the vehicle to be handcuffed, he bolted away from police, running toward Morgantown Road, about 30 feet away. Vincent and Greer caught Fentress and, according to the citation, “Enough force was used to place (Fentress) on the ground.”
Once on the ground, Fentress continued to resist by placing both his arms underneath his body so deputies could not place cuffs on him, according to the citation. Fentress continued to “resist and scream,” police said, before eventually giving his hands to the deputies.
During the scuffle, Vincent’s portable radio sustained damage, with a major component of the radio needing to be replaced.
Fentress was charged with fleeing or evading police, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and third-degree criminal mischief. He was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
