A Leitchfield man is facing multiple charges, including his third DUI, after assaulting his girlfriend and attempting to flee the area.

Wednesday afternoon just before 3:00, Grayson County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Fred Norder was dispatched to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center after a woman arrived with two lacerations over one of her eyes and swelling on her forehead. The lacerations required stitches, according to the arrest citation.

The victim informed Norder that her boyfriend, 36-year-old Elroy Fulkerson Jr., threw and hit her with a cast iron pan as the couple argued. Fulkerson transported the victim in a Kia Sedona to the ER and fled the area, the citation states. The victim told Norder that Fulkerson did not have a driver’s license and had been drinking.

Along with the sheriff’s office, Leitchfield police began a search for Fulkerson that proved fruitless until approximately 5:20 Wednesday afternoon when Norder received information the suspect was traveling north on Anneta Road. Within 10 minutes, Norder, according to the citation, located Fulkerson as the suspect drove on South Main Street in Leitchfield near Commerce Drive.

The sergeant conducted a traffic stop and detected “a strong odor of intoxicants coming from within the vehicle and (Fulkerson’s) breath,” the citation says. The suspect was given a field sobriety test and arrested.

Fulkerson was charged with fourth-degree assault (domestic violence), his third DUI, second-degree wanton endangerment, driving on a DUI suspended license, possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle, failure to maintain insurance, and no registration plates.

He was also served with a failure to appear warrant, subjecting Fulkerson to a $3,500 cash bond, on a failure to pay child support charge.

He was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
