An intense blaze has destroyed a Falls of Rough home despite the efforts of two fire departments.
Tuesday night at approximately 6:45, the Falls of Rough and Leitchfield Fire Departments were dispatched to 171 Shores Road on the report of a structure fire.
Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found flames coming from both ends of the wood-frame structure, with heavy smoke pouring from all the home’s openings. Additionally, the residence had several firearms and ammunition inside, making battling the blaze more perilous.
Firefighters fought the fire for well over two hours but the structure was a total loss, as flames rolled intensely inside the home before burning several holes in the roof.
The occupants of the home escaped the fire, but several cats perished.
The cause of the fire is initially believed to be electrical.
