The visiting Breckinridge County Lady Tigers batted around twice in the first two innings Monday against the Lady Cougars, scoring nine runs on their way to a blowout, 13-2 win in five innings.
Sophomore Mallory Lindsey was the starting and losing pitcher for the Lady Cougars, going one and a third innings and allowing nine runs on eight hits, while striking out one and walking two. Sophomore Audrey Killion relieved with one out in the second and closed out the game, allowing four runs on six hits while walking one and striking out three.
Breck scored four runs in the first inning after two were out. Pitcher Skyler Henderson drove in one run with a single to left, and shortstop Raelyn Adkisson drove in a pair with another single to left. The Lady Cougars committed three errors in the inning.
Breck added five more runs in the second on four hits and three Cougar errors. The Lady Tigers made it 10-0 with a run in the third.
Grayson County got on the board with a run in the bottom of the third. Second baseman Addy Bratcher led off with an infield single, moved to second on a ground out, then scored on a single to right by Madi Schultz.
Breck made it 11-1 with an unearned run in the fourth.
The Lady Cougars added a run in the fourth to make it 11-2. Catcher Autumn Riggs reached first with a bad-hop single leading off the inning and was replaced by courtesy runner Kassidy Chaffins.
Henderson then struck out Brianna Dennis and Lauren Stevenson before walking Allie Dotson and Bratcher to load the bases. With an 0-1 count on Killion, Bratcher inexplicably took off from first on a steal attempt even though second base was occupied.
With Bratcher in a run-down between first and second, Chaffins was able to slide home with the second run before Bratcher was tagged out to end the inning.
Breck added two more runs in the fifth to give them an 11-run lead, and when the Lady Cougars went 1-2-3 in their half of the fifth, the game was called by the run rule.
The Lady Cougars will be back in action on Thursday when they host Thomas Nelson. That game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
