Due to thousands of vaccine slots not being filled, Gov. Andy Beshear is expanding vaccination eligibility.
Beshear said Wednesday that Kentuckians 16-years-old and older will become eligible for the COVID vaccine beginning Monday.
The Pfizer vaccine is currently the only vaccine available to 16-and 17-year-olds, as the Moderna and the Johnson & Johnson one shot vaccine are only available for people 18 and older.
Originally, residents between the ages of 16 and 39 were told they would be allowed to sign up for a vaccine beginning April 12.
Pfizer has announced that its COVID vaccine was 100 percent effective in protecting children 12 and older against symptomatic disease in a study that included more than 2,200 children. Last week, Pfizer began testing its vaccine on children ages six months to 11-years-old.
As of Wednesday, over 1.3 million Kentucky adults had received at least one vaccine.
