Two Grayson County High School students have been selected to participated in the Kentucky Governor’s Scholars Program.

Juniors Jenna Lucas and Chase Richardson were chosen from thousands of students to take part in the prestigious summer program. Additionally, students Mikayla Clemons, Zoe Cols, Ellie Evans, and Karley Tilford were selected as alternates.

The Governor’s Scholar Program is a residential program for outstanding Kentucky high school students who are rising seniors. The program originated in 1983 because of Kentucky leaders’ concern that the state’s “best and brightest” students were leaving the commonwealth to pursue educational and career opportunities elsewhere, school officials said.

The students selected for the program must be nominated by their high schools and then compete on a statewide level. Only 1,020 were selected from all applicants.

This year’s Governor’s Scholar Program sessions will be held on the campuses of Centre College, Bellarmine University and Morehead State University.
