A Caneyville man has been arrested on drug charges after being found passed out behind the wheel of a running vehicle in the middle of a roadway.

Saturday afternoon at approximately 4:00, Grayson County Deputy Andy Vincent was dispatched to the 700 block of Richland Road on the report of a stationary car in the roadway. Upon arriving at the scene, Vincent observed a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu with 37-year-old Daron L. Fentress “in the driver’s seat slouched over and appeared either passed out or asleep,” according to the arrest citation.

Once the deputy woke Fentress, the suspect “seemed slow and sluggish,” the citation states.

Vincent was given consent to search the vehicle and located a bag of marijuana. The deputy then received consent to search Fentress, where Vincent found a bag of methamphetamine and a pipe containing suspected methamphetamine residue.

Fentress was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating on a suspended/revoked license, and failure to maintain insurance, along with other non-moving violations.

He was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.

Deputies Sean Fentress and Caleb Owens assisted at the scene.

In December 2020, Fentress was arrested after running from, resisting and fighting with Grayson County deputies during a traffic stop. He was also served with an arrest warrant.

In 2015, Fentress was convicted in Grayson County of first-degree wanton endangerment and fleeing or evading police, both class D felonies.
