Positivity rate drops for first time in week. 655 new COVID cases in KY, six deaths.

On Thursday, Gov. Andy Beshear reported 655 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Kentucky over the previous 24 hours.

The new cases increase the state’s COVID-19 victim count to 447,582 (about one case per 9.8 Kentucky residents).

Officials reported six coronavirus deaths (includes one audit death), raising the commonwealth’s death toll to 6,548 (1.5 percent fatality rate).

The rolling seven-day positivity rate fell for the first time in a week, as the metric dropped from Wednesday’s 3.57 percent to 3.51 percent on Thursday.

Hospitalizations decreased by 12 patients to 408, while the number of people in intensive care rose by two to 113. Victims on ventilators increased by three people to 49.

Since the onset of the pandemic, 22,107 (4.9 percent) people have been hospitalized, with 4,528 (one percent) patients treated in intensive care.

At least 51,741 (11.6 percent) Kentuckians have recovered from the virus.

Officials said nearly 1.9 million Kentuckians have received at least a first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, about 52 percent of the population over the age of 16, and over 40 percent of the state’s population.
