Two Grayson County residents have been arrested on drug trafficking charges in Edmonson County.
According to the Edmonson County Sheriff’s Office, Wednesday morning at approximately 9:00, deputies responded to Alford Road on the report of two people apparently passed out in a vehicle.
Upon arriving at the scene, deputies made contact with 39-year-old Phildon D. Wooden, of Big Clifty, and 38-year-old Katrina S. Holderman, of Caneyville. Both suspects were found in a vehicle, along with drug paraphernalia (commonly used to smoke methamphetamine) in plain view, the sheriff’s office said.
Wooden was asked to step out of the vehicle when he began reaching inside his pockets.
Police said a deputy instructed him to stop and conducted an exterior frisk of his pockets, where he felt a syringe. The deputy asked Wooden if the syringe was capped, and warned he would be charged with wanton endangerment if it was not.
Wooden told the deputy the syringe was capped, but when the deputy removed the syringe he found it was uncapped. Additionally, the end of the needle had “snapped off” and the plunger was “still pulled back with residue in the syringe,” according to police.
Holderman was then asked to exist the vehicle and a probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted, where deputies found a bag of suspected methamphetamine, numerous forms of drug paraphernalia and cash.
Once Holderman was placed under arrest, she asked if she could retrieve medication from her vehicle, which was parked nearby. When allowed to retrieve the medication, the deputy observed additional drug paraphernalia in plain view and more cash.
Both suspects were charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and possession of drug paraphernalia. Wooden was also charged with second-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer.
The suspects were lodged in the Hart County Jail.
