An off-duty Hardin County deputy has been killed and a seven-year-old girl critically injured in an ATV accident.

Kentucky State Police responded to the accident in the 100 block of Lincoln Avenue, between Elizabethtown and Radcliff, at approximately 8:00 Friday night.

State police said the investigation showed that off-duty deputy Kevin Johnson, 36, of Elizabethtown, was operating the ATV near 100 Lincoln Avenue when he lost control, ran off the roadway and struck a fence.

Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hardin County Coroner’s Office. His seven-year-old daughter, Aliyana, was airlifted to Norton Children’s Hospital with what police described as life-threatening injuries.

Aliyana, according to WHAS.com, suffered a blood clot between her skull and spinal canal. She has no movement or feeling in her left arm. She also has torn ligaments in her neck and shoulder along with a bruised lung. Her mother said in a social media post on Sunday that Aliyana is breathing on her own.

Johnson was sworn-in as a deputy in April 2021.
