Grayson County has about 500 active cases of COVID-19 and three new deaths this week.

Grayson County Health Department Director Josh Embry said on Tuesday that there are currently “around 500 people who have the virus and are actively ill; those are 500 positives, not 500 people in quarantine, we actually have hundreds of those.”

The “around 500” active cases represent the most positive cases in Grayson County since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020.

Over 20 Grayson County residents are hospitalized with the virus, with four people on a ventilator.

Embry said 95 percent of all new cases over the last 14 days are unvaccinated individuals, with 28.3 percent of those cases people 18-years-old and younger, the highest of any age group.

As of Tuesday, Grayson County’s rate of occurrence stands at 156.2, the highest the key metric has been. A rate of occurrence of 25 indicates a “critical spread” of the virus in the community, according to the Kentucky Department for Public Health.

Embry also said three new deaths have been reported this week. Those deaths will be evaluated by state health officials to confirm they are COVID-related.

There will be a free vaccine clinic held on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and again from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Grayson County Public Library, at 163 Carroll Gibson Boulevard.

No appointment or insurance card are necessary, and all three vaccines will be available.
