The Bowling Green man shot in the head in an argument over high school football powers is asking for the early release of the man who shot him.
Mason South, 20, who was shot in the head by 19-year-old Cameron Buckner in August of last year, has signed an affidavit requesting Buckner’s conditional release from jail after Buckner pled guilty to assault in May.
Buckner received a 10 year prison sentence.
South and Buckner were involved in an altercation at Kereiakes Park that began as a verbal argument over the Bowling Green and South Warren High School football programs. Buckner played football at Bowling Green and had signed a national letter of intent to play college football at Kentucky Wesleyan College.
South told officials that he just wants to “put the matter to rest,” according to a report on WBKO.com. South continued by saying that he and Buckner were “acquaintances” prior to the shooting and that he would like to be friends with him in the future.
Earlier this month, Buckner requested shock probation but was denied the request by the court.
South’s affidavit is expected to be approved or denied in the coming weeks.
